The Southern California Research Institute (SCRI) was incorporated in 1973 and its staff has been continuously engaged in research since that date. For a period of time, Dr. Robert Fiddes in association with TIFMIS MEDICAL GROUP, INC. or AMERICAN PHARMACEUTICAL RESEARCH, INC. used the names “Southern California Research Institute”, “Southern California Research”, and “SCRI”. While using those names, Dr. Fiddes and his associates conducted fraudulent research. The fraudulent activities were discovered, and on September 30, 1997, the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California accepted Dr. Fiddes’ plea and entered judgment against him for one count of conspiring to make false statements to a government agency, the FDA, in violation of 18 U.S.C. 371 and 1001. This conspiracy conviction was based on Dr. Fiddes participating in, directing, and encouraging the submission of false information to sponsors in required reports for clinical studies used by FDA to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of drug products. ► September 27, 1997 Los Angeles Times Article (see For the Record) ► May 17, 1999 New York Times Article (see Editors’ Note) ► October 21, 2009 New York Times Article SCRI sued Dr. Fiddes for wrongly using the SCRI names, and on December 8, 1997, TIFMIS MEDICAL GROUP, INC. or AMERICAN PHARMACEUTICAL RESEARCH. INC. were permanently enjoined by the Superior Court, County of Los Angeles, West District, from using the names “Southern California Research Institute”, “Southern California Research”, and “SCRI”, or similar names. Although the Southern California Research Institute (SCRI) does not have, and has never had, any affiliation or association with Dr. Robert Fiddes, TIFMIS MEDICAL GROUP, INC. or AMERICAN PHARMACEUTICAL RESEARCH, INC., the names “Robert Fiddes” and “Southern California Research Institute”, “SCRI”, and “Southern California Research” often appear together in internet searches, newspapers articles, and book chapters. This continues to unjustly tarnish SCRI’s reputation. SCRI kindly requests that all future references to Dr. Fiddes make a clear distinction between his company and the Southern California Research Institute. SCRI can be contacted at (310) 390-8481. |
